Drone Use in Conservation

Cook Islands Whale Research; Centre for Cetacean Research & Conservation:

A team of researchers used infrared thermography (IRT) to monitor certain biomedical aspects (such as heart rate, respiration rate and skin temperature, etc.) of humpback whale populations near Rarotonga, Cook Islands, including using drones to follow the whales’ behaviours comprising of mother-calf interactions, diving habits, navigation, etc.
