UAS Regulations
Regulations:
The KCAA Kenya published The Civil Aviation (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) Regulations 2020 https://t.co/wSo40BqYuR Kenya Gazette Suppl 34, 30 March 2020, (Legislative Suppl No. 22) , Legal Notice No. 42, The Civil Aviation Act (No. 21 Of 2013).
Here is the UAS 'landing page': https://www.kcaa.or.ke/safety-security-oversight/unmanned-aircraft-systems
It has been reported that two volumes are remaining:
We are however still waiting for the second schedule (licensing of RPAS pilots) and the third schedule (penalties) to be released. https://t.co/vwjNHgwKDT
These regulations appear to follow an operation centric risk-based approach where applications can be made to the CAA. It appears to therefore allow BVLOS, etc. (Category C Operations (High Risk/Manned Aviation Approach) however it may be complex as: ‘… UAS in operated in this category shall be issued with a Certificate of
Airworthiness by the Authority’.

Drone Use in Conservation
The Drones for Nature Conservation Wilddrone project is focused on the Ol Pejeta Conservancy near Mount Kenya.
"The Mission
WildDrone aims to revolutionize wildlife conservation practices by using autonomous drone technology as a unifying platform to monitor wildlife populations, track their movements, and manage human-wildlife conflicts. We believe that the rapid decline of wildlife populations has prompted an urgent need for more effective and feasible nature conservation practices.
The Training
The consortium will train 13 doctoral candidates and equip them with a unique combination of multidisciplinary skills for drone-based ecology and wildlife conservation. The candidates work closely together in a global training network to realize the full potential of drones and companion autonomous systems for nature conservation missions."
